NOTSL is a longstanding community of library professionals dedicated to advancing technical services in libraries across Northern Ohio and beyond. Since our founding in 1947, NOTSL has provided a forum for collaboration, professional development, and mutual support among catalogers, metadata specialists, acquisitions staff, and other technical services librarians.
Our Legacy
NOTSL’s story began in 1947, when a small group of catalogers from the Greater Cleveland area gathered to discuss the unique challenges and opportunities in technical services.
Even in those first years, members were already grappling with issues that remain relevant today: improving workflows, adopting new technologies, and finding ways to do more with limited resources. Recognizing the expanding scope of their work, the group officially adopted the the name NOTSL in 1959.
Throughout the decades, NOTSL has served as a professional home for technical services staff from all types of libraries, including public, academic, and special.
Our meetings and programs have provided a space to discuss new standards and tools, all while supporting one another through the ongoing changes in our field.
Today, NOTSL’s legacy is one of adaptability, collaboration, and a shared commitment to the essential work of technical library services. We honor the contributions of those who came before us, and we continue to build on their foundation as we face what lies ahead.
